Fighting Fair by John Bradshaw, In this powerful program John Bradshaw addresses a paramount issue we face in our most intimate relationships -- negotiating conflict or -- FIGHTING FAIR. Growth in relationships is about working through conflict. Not about avoiding conflict. For in order to have real intimacy in a relationship it is crucial that there exist the capacity for conflict. Sadly, however, healthy skills for managing conflict are not often learned in our developing years. Or we may have learned unhealthy and inappropriate ways of handling disagreements that are often translated into our adult relationships. With stories, examples, and a tool he calls the awareness wheel, Bradshaw offers the listener useful guidelines for learning how to fight fair. He suggests we first be aware of our own family history and how conflicts were negotiated. Anyone learning to fight fair will have a healthy understanding of their own anger and other people's anger. They will learn the first rule in fighting fair is to honestly value each other and really hear the other person's point of view. By learning to use what he calls self-responsible statements they will begin to establish a basis for negotiating good communication, and building a healthy foundation for managing conflict within our most important relationships with spouse, children, family, friends or co-workers.
